West Pa. Turnpike lane reopens near Pittsburgh

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — One westbound lane on the Pennsylvania Turnpike has reopened near Pittsburgh after a tractor-trailer crash involving a fuel spill.

State police have yet to release details on the crash about 5 a.m. today between the Monroeville and Allegheny Valley exits.

But turnpike officials had been detouring westbound traffic off the roughly 10-mile stretch of the turnpike where the crash occurred until one of the westbound lanes reopened about 7:30 a.m.

The alternate detour route required about 90 minutes, and traffic was still badly backed up and moving slowly after the one lane opened.

Hazardous materials crews are on the scene because some fuel spilled from the truck. It was not immediately clear how long it will take crews to open the other westbound lane.
