Dad of missing Iowa girl faces trial amid search

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The father of one of the two missing Iowa cousins is expected to soon learn whether he will be put on trial next week for domestic abuse or drug charges, raising the possibility that he could be sent to prison even as the search continues.

Dan Morrissey is expected to appear in court Friday in Waterloo for pretrial conferences in four cases. In one, he is charged with assaulting his estranged wife, Misty Morrissey, the mother of missing 10-year-old Lyric Cook. Three other cases charge him with possessing, making and dealing methamphetamines.

Lyric and her cousin, 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, have been missing since July 13.

A judge is expected to determine whether any of Morrissey’s cases are ready for trial as scheduled Tuesday and which would go first.
