The Rev. Walter Coy is the interim minister at Austintown Community Evangelical Covenant Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road.

The Rev. Mr. Coy, who began serving in December, has 27 years in the ministry.

He graduated from Youngstown State University with an associate degree in police science and a bachelor’s degree in religious studies. He earned a master of divinity degree with specifications in pastoral psychology and counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio. Mr. Coy was ordained in 1989 and has served at many churches in eastern Ohio and northeastern Indiana.

He served as assistant chaplain at Trumbull Correctional Institute in Leavittsburg and helped set up the Religious Department at Lake Erie Correctional Institute in Conneaut, while serving as head chaplain. Mr. Coy has served on the executive board of the Ohio conference and Western Reserve Association of the United Church of Christ. He has been a mental health therapist for five years in Mahoning County.

He and his wife, Joyce, live in Poland and have two sons and three grandchildren.
