Fire severely injures Amish man, 2 children
SMICKSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man and two children were severely burned after fire broke out in an Amish home.
Officials in Indiana County say the blaze in West Mahoning Township was reported at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Joe Brendle, chief of the Plumville District Volunteer Fire Department, said that said one of the two men in the home lit a wood stove for heat and the blaze spread.
Brendle said one of the men and both children had burns on more than half of their bodies. They were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. The other man was uninjured, as was a woman who was outside doing laundry.
Firefighters doused the blaze in about seven minutes. Brendle said it wasn’t immediately clear how the blaze spread.
