US obesity epidemic shows no signs of waning

CHICAGO (AP) — America's obesity epidemic is proving to be as stubborn as those maddening love handles, and it shows no sign of reversing course.

That's according to the latest figures from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The numbers are appearing in two reports released today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

They show that more than one-third of adults and almost 17 percent of children were obese in 2009-2010. That echoes results since 2003. And the CDC says it means that more than 78 million adults and almost 13 million children aged 2-19 were obese.
