Pond-stocking sale

CORTLAND

The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will have is annual pond-stocking sale through March 30.

White amurs, koi, bass, bluegill, catfish, perch, hybrid bluegill, redear sunfish (shell crackers) and minnows are for sale. White amurs and koi often are used for pond vegetation control. The white amurs cost $15 each, and the koi cost $13 each. The other fish are available from 6 cents to 85 cents per fish.

The fish will be ready for pickup at the Mosquito Lake Parking area off of McCleary Jacoby Road and W. Main Street at 2 p.m. April 3.

Individuals who receive the District’s newsletter will be getting an order form within the publication. The order form also can be found on the District’s website www.swcd.co.trumbull.oh.us.

Fire damages home

GIRARD

A Monday evening fire caused an estimated $7,000-$10,000 damage to a home at 1127 Washington Ave. The owner of the home smelled smoke, called the fire department, and escaped unharmed, firefighters said.

Firefighters received the call about 7:30 p.m. and cleared the scene at 8:45 p.m. The cause of the fire, confined to a first-floor bedroom in the one and one-half story structure, is believed to be careless use of a candle, firefighters said.

Houses destroyed

YOUNGSTOWN

No injuries were reported in a fire early Monday that destroyed two vacant homes in the 100 Block of North Garland Avenue.

The cause of the blaze, which started at 141 N. Garland and spread to 139 N. Garland, is under investigation. Firefighters estimated the damage at $5,000 per house. The fire was reported at 7:15 a.m.
