Ohio scenic railroad gets $3.2M in federal grants

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — A scenic railroad serving a national park in northeast Ohio has landed five federal grants totaling $3.2 million.

The grants were announced today by the head of the Federal Transit Administration for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown says the money will allow the railroad to rebuild locomotives with energy-efficient technology, replace power cars and install a pedestrian bridge.

The railroad serves the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, located between Cleveland and Akron.

The park attracts nearly 3 million visitors a year.
