Fire in Bessemer

BESSEMER

A two-alarm fire destroyed a family home in Lawrence County over the weekend and killed two family pets, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ TV.

The blaze broke out around 2 p.m. Sunday in a house at f West Poland Avenue at Elm Street.

A mother, father and three children were away when the fire broke out but returned to find the family home destroyed.

Two dogs died in the blaze, but fire crews were able to rescue an iguana and a turtle.

Fire officials say it appears the flames started in the kitchen area. The state fire marshal is investigating. No damage estimates have been released.

Seed buffet planned

A “Sunday seed buffet” will be Sunday at Common Ground Church, 2310 W. South Range Road (state Route 165).

The event will follow the 11 a.m. church service. There will be a potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. Free vegetable- and flower-seed packets and bulk seed will be available from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Recital at Dana

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music will present a faculty artist recital by Duo Allant at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Bliss Recital Hall. The recital will feature Dana faculty members Kathryn Thomas Umble on flute and Francois Fowler on guitar. The recital is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue parking deck for a nominal fee.
