Crohn’s workshop

INDEPENDENCE

The Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation offers a workshop, “All You Need to Know About Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis,” from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 3 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 5800 Rockside Woods Blvd. N., Independence. Lifeguard training

Youngstown

The YMCA of Youngstown is offering Lifeguard Training and Certification classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 6 through April 5, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Central Y downtown at the corner of Commerce and Champion streets, and the Davis Y off McClurg Road in Boardman.

Candidates must pass a physical competency test consisting of swimming 300 yards, treading water for 2 minutes using legs only, feet-first surface dive to 10 feet and swimming underwater for 15 feet.

The program is open to people 16 and older. The fee is $175 if registered before Monday and $200 after that date. Call 330-480-5656.

Wellness open house

BOARDMAN

The Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center, office of Dr. Ted Suzelis, is having a public open house Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road Suite D-3. Appetizers, desserts and wine and free 15-minute massage therapy and/or reflexology sessions and a mini-fitness class are offered. Food donations

WARREN

The Warren Family Mission, with locations at 2671 Youngstown-Warren Road SE and 361 Elm Road NE, needs food donations for its pantry.

Particularly needed are dry, box items such as macaroni and cheese, rices, beans, pasta, oatmeal, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, canned fruits, oatmeal, cereal, instant mashed potatoes, snacks, crackers, stews and soups. The pantry also is low on canned goods, juices and dairy products. To donate, bring items to either location. For information, call 330-394-5437.

Healthy Heart event

Northside Medical Center is offering “A Healthy Heart Loves Wine & Chocolate” Sunday at the Massage Cafe, 4259 Boardman-Canfield Road.

The free event, offered at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., is in conjunction with Northside’s Healthy Woman program designed to provide women with the information to maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit for themselves and their loved ones.

Attendees will celebrate Heart Month with information from Northside’s Heart and Vascular program, sample wine and chocolate from Vino Novello and Dove Chocolate Discoveries, and receive a mini-massage. Free mammogram and pap-smear clinic

A free mammogram and pap-smear clinic is offered to women 40 to 60 with limited income and no insurance March 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Warren City Health Department, 418 Main Ave. SW.
