Former Detroit Lion to speak on depression, suicide at YSU

Eric Hipple, former quarterback with the Detroit Lions and one of the nation’s foremost authorities on depression and suicide, will bring his “You Can Make It!” program to Youngstown State University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

Hipple’s message of awareness of signs and symptoms of depression, steps to recovery, and resilience, has helped individuals, families, schools and employers as they care for families, students and employees. Hipple has been a professional motivational speaker on topics of depressive disorder awareness and treatment after the death of his 15-yearold son by suicide. He has devoted his life to building awareness and breaking down the stigma surrounding depressive illnesses.

The YSU Department of Campus Recreation & Student Programming, Department of Athletics, Center for Human Services Development, Housing & Residence Life, Office of Student Diversity, and the Student Government Association sponsor the program. The program is also co-sponsored by YSU’s reek Campus Life organizations.
