Submit Lenten services, activities

Lent, a season of spiritual renewal, begins Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Forty days is a traditional number of discipline, devotion and preparation in the Bible.

A listing of Ash Wednesday services and other Lenten programs will be published Feb. 18.

Deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Lent retreat

“A Time to Discover the Abundance in My Life” is the theme of a Lent retreat planned from 7 p.m. March 2 to 10 a.m. March 4 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center.

The retreat will include presentations on personal prayer, social justice, mellowness of heart and belonging to a concrete community.

The center staff will lead the retreat.

Cost is $135; registration is due by Friday.

Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will host an ecumenical program of worship, “Singing the Faith,” featuring choirs and musical groups from a wide range of Christian traditions.

The free presentation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday in St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.

A free-will offering will be taken. Light refreshments will follow the program.

Believers Budgeting

A Believers Budgeting program on the theme “Our of Hock and Out of Debt” will be presented from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave.

Judy Quarles, financial consultant of Compass Family Service Agency, will present the program.

Arrangements were made by the Christian Education Ministry of elder Rose Carter, director; Betty Patterson, co-director; and the Rev. James Bowie, pastor.

Bible study

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 12030 Market St., will sponsor a seven-week Bible study, “Making Sense of the Cross” by David J. Lose. Classes will begin next week with sessions at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Discussion will focus on why the cross matters and encourages participants readers to bring their questions or doubts.

The cost of the book is $12, payable to Good Hope Lutheran Church.

A cake reception will follow in fellowship hall.

Information lecture

“Help and Healing on the Spiritual Path through the Teachings of Bruno Groening,” an information lecture, will be offered at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 Broad St.

The lecture is sponsored by the Circle for Spiritual Aid, based on the teachings of Bruno Groening, a Gemran healer and teacher.

Sessions are at the church but are not affiliated with it.

There is no fee; donations appreciated.
