Trooper of the Year honors in Southington

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Donald E. Walker has been selected as the 2012 Trooper of the Year at the Southington Post, and Amy M. Zatvarnicky has been selected dispatcher of the year.

Walker, 44, joined the patrol in 1998 and served at several locations and assignments before returning to the Southington Post in 2011. Originally from Howland and a graduate of Howland High School, Walker served in the U. S. Marine Corps.

He and his wife, Naomi, live in Atwater with their four children: Corey, Donovan, Amanda, and Jessica.

Zatvarnicky has been selected for the 2012 Ohio State Highway Patrol Telecommunications Award at the Southington Dispatch Center. She also was selected as dispatcher of the year for the Warren district and is in contention for the state dispatcher of the year award.

Zatvarnicky, 39, joined the patrol in 1998 and has served at the Canfield Post, along with the Ravenna and Warren dispatch centers. She originally is from Austintown and graduated from Austintown Fitch High School.

She and husband, David, live in Girard with their children Victoria, 12, and Brooke, 4.
