COLUMBUS (AP) — A city police officer was hospitalized after he was hit by an allegedly stolen car.

Columbus police said another officer fired at the suspect after he abandoned the car and ran but didn’t hit him. The suspect was arrested after a foot chase.

The officer wasn’t seriously injured.

Police say it happened Thursday night when officers stopped a car they suspected was stolen during a burglary. The suspect then gunned the car, hit the officer and damaged multiple police cruisers.

The suspect’s car crashed into another car before he stopped and fled on foot. His name has not been released.
