The Boardman YMCA offered children an alternative to staying home on a Friday night during the “Kids Night Out At The Y” event Aug. 17.

“Once a month we have kids night out at the YMCA. We split them up by age groups. The younger kids go to the gym and older kids go swimming and then we do a quick snack and then a movie. They are able to utilize every inch of the Y,” said Preschool and Family Director Adele Taylor.

Kids enjoyed themselves as they played games, watched movies and went swimming. Older children even showed off their special skills during a talent show. The event not only offered children a fun and interesting way to enjoy the evening, but also gave parents the opportunity to enjoy a night out on the town while knowing their children are safe.

“I feel like from the parents’ perspective, it’s a safe place where they can feel comfortable leaving their kids. We’re very respectful of their families. I think it’s just a friendly place for their kids to be. It’s the YMCA and they know our values are the same as theirs and we expect kids to be respectful of one another. They’re playing and while their playing they have no clue that their getting these life skills,” Taylor said.
