AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An city man has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years for raping a young girl.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that a judge ignored pleas of mercy in court Wednesday from 59-year-old Mark Randles. He was convicted in July of raping the girl for four years, starting when she was 7.
The judge also ignored a request from his attorney to consider some form of incarceration other than state prison because of Randles’ poor health.
Randles surrendered to police in 2011 after the girl told her mother what had happened. The victim’s mother told the judge that Randles confessed when she confronted him about what her daughter had told her.
He’s been in jail for the past year.
