Big 11th inning helps lift Scrappers past Auburn

AUBURN, N.Y.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored four runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat the Auburn Doubledays 7-3 in a New York-Penn League game on Saturday.

Hunter Jones led off the inning with a double and Erik Gonzalez sacrificed him to second on a bunt to Auburn reliever Gilberto Mendez.

After Robel Garcia walked, the Doubledays pulled Mendez in favor of Andrew Wall.

Aaron Siliga then singled to right for the Scrappers to score Jones, moving Garcia to second. Joseph Wendle followed with a single to right to score Garcia and move Siliga to second.

Dorssys Paulino then broke the game open with a two-run double to right that scored Siligan and Wendle. Paulino was thrown out at third but the four-run lead easily held up.

Paulino finished 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Scrappers. Wendle added two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Siliga had two hits, a run and an RBI.

Jack Wagoner (3-5) pitched 21/3 innings of shutout relief to get the win. He struck out four with a walk and a hit.

Ryan Merritt started and gave up three runs (two earned) in 51/3 innings. He pitched around 11 hits and two walks, striking out five.

Robbie Aviles pitched 31/3 innings of shutout relief to bridge the gap to Wagoner. Aviles gave up three hits and two walks and did not record a strikeout.

Mendez (0-1) got the loss in just one-third inning of work for the Doubledays.
