HUBBARD

Hubbard Eagles running back Larry Scott won’t have to worry about washing his uniform for next week’s game.

It isn’t that he didn’t play, because he did. Just ask Collinwood.

Scott, a 6-foot-1-inch, 215-pound sophomore rushed for 201 yards on just five carries while not getting tackled the entire game, as Hubbard rolled to a 56-0 victory Friday night at Hubbard Memorial Stadium.

“That was the first time I went a game without getting tackled,” Scott said. “It felt pretty good.”

The rout was on from Hubbard’s first offensive possession, as Scott took his first handoff 53 yards to the end zone untouched, let alone untackled.

After the Eagles’ Brandon Harb returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown, Scott took back a Railroaders punt 32 yards for his second score of the game.

Already leading 21-0 after the first quarter, Scott started the second period with a 49-yard TD run, and just minutes later, ran 54 yards for another score.

He capped his night with two more second-quarter scores — touchdown runs of 10 and 35 yards.

In all, Scott finished with six touchdowns and an unblemished uniform.

“He ran with authority,” said Eagles coach Brian Hoffman. “He’s definitely faster than he was a year ago. He looked good.”

Scott said this was a night Hubbard had been anticipating.

“I planned on coming out here and working hard with my team,” Scott said. “We work hard over practice for this. We’ve been waiting for this day.”

He also made sure his offensive line didn’t go unappreciated.

“My offensive line was really good,” he said. “Any time I get an interview, I always have to include them, because I can’t do it without them.”

The Eagles’ defense did get dirty and their performance was just as dominant.

Hubbard allowed just 79 passing yards and forced the Railroaders into negative rushing yardage with minus-15. The Eagles also forced five turnovers, including two picks by Harb.

“I was happy we were able to keep them out of the end zone, but not completely happy with the way we played at times,” Hoffman said. “We have some things that we really need to focus on this week. We have some things we definitely need to clean up before we go against a team like Girard,” Hoffman said. “They’re coached well. They’re sound. And they’ll make us pay for our mistakes.”
