Springfield's new police dog makes 1st heroin bust

Springfield Township’s new police dog made its first heroin bust this week.

Patrolman Glenn Corey and police dog Dany made a traffic stop at about 2 p.m. Thursday on state Route 164.

After a search of the vehicle revealed hypodermic needs, spoons with suspected heroin and a knife, police arrested the passenger, Michael Owen Bowers, 31, of Fredericktown, Pa., and charged him with drug paraphernalia, possessing drug abuse instruments, and possession of heroin, according to reports.
