Longtime village Clerk-Treasurer Linda Srnec told council this week she is resigning her post effective Dec. 1.

Srnec has served as clerk-treasurer for 21 years and, in a statement to council, said she will continue for the next three months to avoid an abrupt department that would disrupt village operations.

She pledged to help the next clerk-treasurer learn the software, perform payroll and complete the annual financial report.

Srnec did not specify a reason for her resignation but said her feelings about the office have changed.

In a prepared statement, Srnec said: “In many instances, I’ve been criticized for wanting to be sure we do things correctly. It is not my intention to publicly point fingers at anyone as I do not think anything constructive can come of that.”

She thanked residents for electing her to serve as clerk-treasurer, adding “the welfare of this town has become a part of my life.”

Council President Joe Mazur commended Srnec’s service.

“In my opinion, she’s a gem, and she did a great job. We never had a problem with the state audit,” Mazur said.

He said the village is searching for a replacement, and the procedure is for the mayor to recommend someone to council and then council to vote on the candidate.

In other business, Mazur gave council an update about the traffic-light installation at U.S. Route 224 and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Mazur said the Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 is planning to start the $113,950 project Sept. 24 and complete it by Nov. 16.

“It will be great, and we’ll have this project behind us,” Mazur said.
