POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

April 22

Theft: An East Second Street man reported the theft of a $200 MP3 player.

Fraud: A West Prospect Street man found three fraudulent transactions to his credit cards after having reported his wallet stolen.

Arrest: Police on Church Hill Road stopped 19-year-old Katelyn Shields, 665 Church Hill, Girard, cited her on a charge of driving under suspension and issued her a summons charging her with underage possession of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

April 23

Vicious dogs: A man walking in the 100 block of Belgrade Avenue reported that two dogs came out of a residence and tried to attack him.

Burglary: Occurred in the 200 block of Dearborn Street through a first-floor window. Stolen were an Xbox 360 system, two laptop computers and an electric guitar, for a $1,200 estimated loss.

Theft: A Forsythe Avenue woman reported her daughter’s $200 cellphone stolen.

LIBERTY

April 18

Theft: A Park Avenue man reported his wallet lost or stolen, then discovered $350 worth of unauthorized purchases to his credit card.

Arrest: Weathersfield police handed 31-year-old Carl T. Fisher to township authorities. Fisher, of 358 E. Auburndale Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered Super Sheet Metal Inc., 2850 Belmont Ave., via a rear door. An undisclosed sum of money was missing.

Theft by deception: Two people, including a Niles woman, reportedly picked up a $320 laptop computer at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, after a Lombard, Ill., woman had reported her husband’s credit-card information stolen and used to order merchandise online, including the computer.

Assault: A Trumbull Avenue man reported his 15-year-old daughter was slapped while on a school bus.

April 19

Auto theft: A 1997 Toyota Camry was stolen in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive.

Theft/weapon: Adam J. Young, 28, of 1 Eutaw Ave., East Liverpool, faced misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon, theft and possession of criminal tools after $69 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. Young also had a folding knife, a report showed.

Theft: Two cellphones and $300 were missing from a car near Fifth and Ravine avenues.

Arrest: Police in Youngstown picked up 51-year-old Stefan Breedlove, 1961 Donald Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Drugs: Walmart officials detained 21-year-old James M. Maddox Jr. before police issued Maddox a summons charging him with possession of dangerous drugs. Maddox, of 142 Saranac Ave., Liberty, had in plastic wrap various prescription drugs for which he had no prescription, a report showed.

April 20

Arrest: Edward Cornwell, 58, of 3121 Ohio Ave., Liberty, was pulled over near Trumbull Court and taken into custody on a warrant from Youngstown.

Domestic violence: A 13-year-old Warren boy staying with family at a Belmont Avenue motel was charged with domestic violence and various juvenile offenses after his mother alleged the teen had struck his younger brother’s face several times and pushed him.

April 21

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop on Logan Gate Road led to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension against 33-year-old Paul E. Weston III, 552 Miller St., Youngstown. A digital scale commonly associated with drug use was found, police said.

Arrest: Jevon P. Prieto, 29, of 728 E. Dewey Ave., Youngstown, was charged with driving under suspension after having been stopped on Logan Way. Prieto also was wanted by Campbell police on a probation-violation charge.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open the front door to a vacant residence in the 400 block of Arbor Circle, then cut and stole copper piping from the basement.

Burglary: To a vacant piece of rental property in the 100 block of Catherine Drive, from which copper piping and a lawn mower were removed.

April 22

Arrest: Austintown police handed 30-year-old Bernita Carter, 209 Carroll St., Youngstown, to township authorities, who booked her on a probation-violation and a theft charge. Carter also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when, officers said, a suspected crack pipe was found during the booking process.

Burglary/weapon: Police responded to a report of two men fleeing a residence in the 1300 block of West Montrose Avenue carrying a 50-inch TV before charging Gerald M. Wainwright, 19, of 211 Colonial Drive, Liberty, and 23-year-old Justyn Edwards, 3701 Oakwood Ave., Liberty, with burglary and being convicted felons with a firearm. Found in Edwards’ residence were the TV thought to have been stolen, as well as a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun, authorities said.

April 23

Theft: Police cited 42-year-old Derrick G. McIntosh, 962 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown, after $35 worth of items was stolen from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza.

Arrest: Authorities arrested 23-year-old Jean E. Tapscott, 263 Norwood Ave., Youngstown, at the Mahoning County jail. She was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court.

Theft/drugs: Mykel J. Phipps, 21, of 221 W. Dennick St., Youngstown, faced a felony charge of heroin possession and a misdemeanor theft count after $22 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. Phipps had a bag containing 2.2 grams of suspected heroin, a report said.

Burglary: To a home in the 2800 block of Sampson Drive through a sliding-glass door. Among items stolen were a 50-inch, flat-screen TV as well as a laptop computer and monitor.

Burglary: Took place in the 4700 block of Logan Arms Drive via a rear garage door. Stolen were a $3,900 gold ring and two wristwatches, for a $5,300 loss.
