ROOTSTOWN TOWNSHIP

A spunky 11-year-old northeast Ohio girl is the face of a campaign to bring awareness to an incurable condition.

Mackenzie Holcomb of Rootstown Township near Akron has undergone six brain surgeries in four years for what’s commonly known as “water on the brain.”

She was recently chosen at random to represent girls who share the condition. She’ll be in ads and interviews and chat on social media sites on behalf of the foundation.

The campaign mostly will take place on the Internet, through websites and social media.

Mackenzie is one of about 1 million in America with the condition. She was diagnosed when she was 8 years old.

She tells the Akron Beacon Journal that it hasn’t stopped her from doing anything that she wants, whether its shopping or dancing.
