US Airways aims to convince other AMR creditors

US Airways says it is trying to convince creditors of American Airlines of the virtues of a merger even though American executives don't want one right now.

US Airways CEO Doug Parker said today he would prefer to be working with managers at American on a deal. He said he understands that they want to focus on restructuring the airline while in bankruptcy protection.

In the meantime, he said US Airways is focusing on the committee that represents unsecured creditors at American.

US Airways has not made a formal offer to merge. Last week the three big unions at American said they support the idea of a merger with US Airways. Those unions have three of the nine seats on the creditor's committee.
