Former deputy files $25K suit against man

YOUNGSTOWN

A former deputy sheriff has civilly sued the man accused of trying to strangle her with panty hose for more than $25,000.

Dorothy Frazzini, 63, of Austintown, sued in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court David G. Hughes, 59, of Boardman, who was sentenced to five years’ probation and an indefinite period of house arrest in a criminal case after he pleaded guilty in the April 26, 2011, incident outside a South Raccoon Road discount store.

Hughes pleaded guilty to felonious assault and child endangering but avoided prison because a medical evaluation determined his actions were a side effect of missing a dose of his Parkinson’s medication.

The child-endangering charge stemmed from Hughes’ having his 5-year-old grandson in the car with him when the incident occurred.

The civil lawsuit, filed Monday, demands a jury trial and is assigned to Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, the same judge who handled the criminal matter.
