NILES

Daryl Boggs, the 49-year-old Niles man killed by police April 16 during an apparent break-in at a house on Old Forge Road, was a relative of the home- owners, Trumbull County Commissioner Frank Fuda has confirmed.

Fuda is a brother of Dominic Fuda, owner of the home where the incident took place.

Frank Fuda said his sister-in-law, Dominic Fuda’s wife, is a cousin of Boggs’, but his sister-in-law didn’t know Boggs well. Frank Fuda said he doesn’t believe Boggs had ever been inside his brother’s house before.

Boggs would not have had permission to go inside his brother’s house, Frank Fuda said.

Police were alerted by a neighbor that a man had walked up Dominic Fuda’s driveway at 9:45 p.m. Monday while the Fudas were out of town.

The neighbor reported seeing a light go on in the house, according to a 911 recording Niles police released.

Officers arrived less than two minutes after the 911 call and spotted Boggs in the house with a gun, police said.

About 10 minutes later, Boggs, of 425 Fenton St., Niles, went out the back door into a fenced-in yard, where officers ordered him to drop his weapon.

Boggs refused, then fired his gun at officers, police said.

Three officers fired back, hitting Boggs multiple times. Boggs was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

His death was ruled a homicide, the result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, county coroner.
