The new police chief in Ohio’s largest city has taken the oath of office publicly, two weeks after moving into the job.

Deputy Chief Kimberley Jacobs was officially sworn in as Columbus police chief April 5. Mayor Michael Coleman and other city officials attended the public ceremony Friday at the police academy.

Jacobs is the first woman to serve as police chief in Columbus. She replaces an interim leader who has served since the previous chief retired.
