Mahoning commissioners approve fact-finder's report with deputies

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners today approved a fact-finder’s report concerning the final year of the three-year labor contract between the county sheriff’s office and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 141.

Lodge 141 represents 170 sheriff’s deputies, 19 ranking officers and 12 civilian employees of the sheriff’s office. The contract expires June 30, 2013.

After a March 20 hearing, the fact-finder, Mitchell B. Goldberg, recommended that the county immediately allocate $500,000 to the sheriff to be applied to eight provisions of the deputies’ contract, which have been frozen due to the county’s recession-induced financial constraints.

Commissioners also awarded a $4,035,000 contract for Phase Four of the Western Reserve Road widening project to A.P. O'Horo Co. of Liberty. Phase Four is between state Route 46 and U.S. Route 62.
