910th wing official to move to 911th
VIENNA
Air Force Col. Craig C. Peters, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing’s Operations Group, has been named commander of Pittsburgh’s 911th Airlift Wing, which is slated to be closed.
Peters, who came to the 910th at the Youngs-town Air Reserve Station in April 2009, will take command of the 911th on May 6. Col. Jeffrey T. Pennington, Peters’ predecessor at the 911th, is the new commander of the 433rd Airlift Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
A member of Peters’ staff at the 910th will be acting Operations Group commander until the position is permanently filled, a 910th spokesman said.
Air Force officials have slated the 911th for closure to save $354 million over five years. Some 286 bases in the United States are to have their fleets reduced, including the 910th, but the 911th is the only one recommended for closure.
Peters is a pilot with more than 7,100 hours of flying time, including 297 combat flying hours having flown in every operational conflict since Operation Desert Storm.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration cum laude from Anna Maria College and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Ala. He has numerous awards and decorations.
