Relay for Life season begins Friday at YSU

The American Cancer Society’s Youngstown Relay for Life will be at Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday .

The opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. followed by the cancer survivor lap and reception. The luminaria ceremony, where candles are lighted in memory of those lost to cancer and those battling cancer is at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, the Fight Back Ceremony is at 9:30 a.m., and the closing ceremony and award presentations are at 11 a.m.

Activities and events include Survivor’s Choice judging of team tent sites; Relay Dance Contest; Toss for a Cure Cornhole Tournament, Ceremony of Hope, Scavenger Hunt, Jump Rope Contest, T-shirt Contest and Best Midnight Snack Team Tent Sites.

Canfield to begin collecting brush

The city begins brush collection next week.

Residents should place brush at the curb for pickup by the city’s contractor, Buckeye Landscaping.

Pickups will begin at the beginning of the week of April 23 in the northeast quadrant, the week of April 30 in the southeast quadrant, the week of May 7 in the southwest quadrant, and the week of May 14 in the northwest quadrant.

Residents should have brush at the street Sunday evening of their scheduled week for pickup starting Monday morning, according to a news release from the city.

Brush should be cut in lengths not to exceed 10 feet. Diameter of branches must not exceed 3 inches. No roots of any type will be picked up.
