Ohio coroner: Baby found in freezer was born alive

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A coroner in Ohio says an infant found dead in a freezer was born alive.

A landlord in Toledo found the baby boy’s body last Friday while cleaning out one of his rental properties.

The Lucas County coroner’s office said today that an autopsy shows the baby boy was a newborn and delivered at full-term. The autopsy didn’t reveal the cause of death or the identity of the infant. More tests are pending.

Authorities have charged the couple that had been living at the house with endangering children. Police are now investigating the infant’s death as a homicide. They’re each being held on $1 million bond.

Court records say the couple caused serious harm to the infant and that relatives believed the woman was pregnant but no birth was reported.
