Police: 3 soldiers admitted to Okla. home invasion

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) — Police say three soldiers from an Oklahoma Army post have confessed to taking part in a home invasion in which four people were shot and wounded.

Lawton police Det. Brenna Alvarez says in a sworn affidavit filed Tuesday that Pfcs. Kevon McLaren, Richard Daly and Claude Byrd told investigators they took part in the Sept. 20 robbery.

Alvarez says Byrd told police they told a friend, Heather Smith, they were going to rob her neighbor’s apartment and that she didn’t object. Prosecutors say McClaren shot the four victims.

A fourth Fort Sill soldier is accused of being the getaway driver and Smith is charged with lying to police and being an accessory after the fact.

All five are in jail.
