Postal workers rally on Federal Street

YOUNGSTOWN

Local postal workers rallied on Federal Street on Tuesday to protest possible job cuts.

The U.S. Postal Service, facing a $9.2 billion deficit this year, has proposed layoffs of more than 35,000 and closures of many processing and distributing facilities nationwide, including Youngstown, where more than 500 are employed.

Workers voiced their support for HR 1351, which would modify the postal service’s pension prefunding requirements.

The postal service overfunds future retiree health-care benefits by $5.5 billion annually.

YSU fall job expo is today at Kilcawley

YOUNGSTOWN

The 2011 Fall Job Expo, sponsored by Youngstown State University’s Office of Career & Counseling Services, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

Current YSU students and all alumni from all majors who are looking for a professional position, internship or co-op can attend.

Sixty-two employers from local, regional and national companies will be available to discuss employment opportunities, distribute organizational information and accept r sum s from participants. Registration is available at the door.

Interview for health jobs on Thursday

BOARDMAN

Harrington Health will interview job-seekers at the Mahoning County One-Stop, 149 Boardman Canfield Road, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The interviews are for those interested in health care who do not want to work directly with patients.

Harrington Health, the benefit-administration and claims-processing company, seeks claims examiners, appeals, adjusters and supervisors for its Canfield office.

Candidates should dress in business casual attire and bring a current r sum .

The positions pay $12 to $14 an hour. The positions include health and dental benefits, 401(k) and vacation. A medical background is not necessary, but helpful.
