YOUNGSTOWN

In celebration of Polish American heritage month, the Polish Arts Club of Youngstown will present an examination of a piece of Polish history, Solidarity, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McDonough Museum of Art auditorium, Wick Avenue

Solidarity began when the men and women of the Gdansk, Poland, shipyards stood up against an oppressive regime and demanded the right to form an independent trade union more than 30 years ago.

The free event will begin with a screening of the documentary, Fall of the Empire (Upadek Imperiu), directed by Andrzej Titkow, which shows the events leading to the democratic transformations of Central Europe and the fall of the Soviet Union.

After the film, Dr. Casimir Kowalski, professor of management at South Carolina State University and the senior co-editor of the recently released Heroes of Solidarity, will discuss the leadership examples set forth by the young people behind the movement, with emphasis on the inspirational lessons it has for leaders today.

A dessert reception will follow.

Parking is available in the M-1 deck of Youngs-town State University.
