POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Sept. 14

Theft: A Forsythe Avenue woman reported her son’s $300 bicycle stolen from their front porch.

Recovered property: A global-positioning-system device presumably stolen during a break-in was found in a backyard in the 300 block of East Wilson Avenue.

Breaking and entering: A 52-inch TV and an Xbox game console were taken from a residence in the 100 block of Morris Avenue someone had entered. The loss came to $800.

Menacing: A Trumbull Avenue woman reported another woman threatened to beat up the accuser and her sister, which the accused denied.

Theft: A $50 MP3 player was taken from a car in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue.

Recovered property: An East Wilson Avenue woman found her purse across the street from her home after having reported it stolen from a vehicle.

Vehicle theft: A $10,000 motorcycle was stolen in the 1000 block of Patricia Drive.

Burglary: Someone kicked in the rear door to a residence in the 500 block of West Liberty Street before removing copper piping and wiring.

Forgery: A North Highland Avenue man discovered one of his stolen personal checks was forged and cashed for $410.

Assault: A man in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue told officers someone had struck him from behind.

Sept. 15

Assault: An East Prospect Street boy told police two males struck him in the head and mouth with a rock in Liberty Township Park. He suffered minor injuries.

Arrest: U.S. marshals took Jerry E. Pennington Jr., into custody at his residence, 229 Church Hill Road, Girard. Pennington was wanted on multiple warrants.

Assault: A charge was pending against a 16-year-old boy after a student alleged the teen had struck him at Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road, regarding a debt.

Sept. 16

Arrest: William R. Jackson, 58, of Hubbard was arrested in the 500 block of North Avenue on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a menacing charge. Jackson also was charged with criminal trespassing.

Theft: A $100 GPS unit was removed from a vehicle in the 600 block of Forsythe Avenue.

Harassment: A worker for an East Liberty Street business reported a former employee posted roughly 30 such messages about her online.

Sept. 17

Harassment: A Washington Avenue man said his former sister-in-law sent harassing and threatening text messages.

Criminal mischief: An East Market Street man accused a neighbor of shooting two BBs at his window.

Sept. 18

Assault: Police responded to a fight between three or four people in the 100 block of South Lorain Avenue.

Theft: A Cheyenne Drive man reported the theft of his $150 mailbox.

Sept. 19

Theft: A Craver Street woman reported a lawn mower and a clock stolen from her front porch.

HUBBARD

Sept. 14

Attempted theft: A woman in the 600 block of Myron Street told police someone tried to steal gasoline from her vehicle.

Drugs: Authorities received a report of possible drug dealing on School Street.

Criminal mischief: A West Park Avenue woman said a neighbor threw mud on her car.

Sept. 15

Criminal mischief: Someone reported youngsters had damaged a fence surrounding the football field at Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave.

Sept. 16

Assault: A man accused a cousin of assaulting him while in the 600 block of West Liberty Street.

Sept. 17

Theft: A Princeton Avenue woman reported a large concrete snowman statue stolen from her yard.

Drugs: Police received a 911 call regarding possible drug activity in the township.

Recovered property: A woman in the 100 block of Clingan Street found two lawn statues left on her front porch.

Sept. 18

Theft: A Christian Avenue man reported a debit/credit card missing from his wallet.

Criminal mischief: A Jackson Street woman accused a neighbor of pulling out her cast-iron fence and tossing it in her yard.

LIBERTY

Sept. 14

Assault: Lawrence B. Hall, 41, of 225 E. Montrose Ave., Liberty, faced a simple-assault charge after an employee of a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant alleged Hall became enraged about his order and threw food items, striking her left eye.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant residence in the 3100 block of Hadley Avenue and removed copper piping and a water meter.

Theft: A woman noticed her wallet missing while at a Belmont Avenue restaurant.

Domestic violence: Police charged 38-year-old Darrell Ford, 4 Trumbull Court, Liberty, with domestic violence, disorderly conduct while intoxicated and resisting arrest. An intoxicated Ford had threatened a family member, then struggled with an officer, a report said.

Sept. 15

Arrest: Police responded to an unwanted person in the 2800 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road, where they charged 28-year-old Michael J. Ciccolelli Jr., 611 Dumont Ave., Campbell, with receiving stolen property after saying he had three car titles and a checkbook thought to have been stolen during a break-in. Ciccolelli, who also was wanted on a warrant, was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Burglary: Occurred in the 20 block of Tuttle Drive. Stolen were a 9 mm semiautomatic weapon and an assault rifle.

Arrest: Dainon Jones, 31, of 1572 Fountain Square Drive, Austintown, faced four counts of identity theft, two of forgery and one each of falsification and obstructing justice after police pulled him over near Gypsy Lane. Officers confiscated three credit cards in someone else’s name and three checks bearing the name of a fictitious company from Jones, who they said had provided another person’s operating license to hide his criminal record.

Theft: A newspaper vending machine was stolen in the 1600 block of Trumbull Avenue.

Arrest: Authorities picked up 29-year-old Donald J. Slater in Youngstown. Slater, of 3752 N. Hermitage Road, Transfer, Pa., was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the township.

Fraud: A Green Acres Drive woman found out someone had opened a natural-gas account in her name, with $177 owed.

Sept. 16

Arrest: Youngstown police handed 48-year-old Henry A. Garner to township authorities. Garner, of 3531 Hillman Way, Youngstown, was wanted on a theft count.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Fifth Avenue led to a charge of driving under the influence against 56-year-old Isaac Green, 130 Upland Ave., Youngstown.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop on Logan Gate Road resulted in the arrest of Scott Fleming, 32, of 3842 state Route 7, Burghill, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle impaired. A suspected marijuana pipe, a small quantity of suspected marijuana and papers commonly used to roll the drug were found, a report said.

Sept. 17

Arrest: Jon B. Luster, 34, of 1920 Park Drive, Niles, was picked up near Hadley Avenue on a warrant charging him with failure to pay court-ordered child support.

Identity theft: A Green Acres Drive man found 16 fraudulent withdrawals totaling $282 to his savings account.

Sept. 18

Theft: David M. Leach, 41, of 1320 W. Montrose Ave., Liberty, was accused of stealing food and other items from Dollar General, 4425 Logan Way.

Theft: Ronald B. Cheney II, 32, of 130 Aurora Circle, Liberty, faced a felony charge after two family members alleged he had stolen jewelry from them. Cheney admitted having taken and pawned the items and was released on his own recognizance, a report showed.

Burglary: Took place in the 400 block of Catherine Street after someone kicked in a rear garage door and ransacked the home.
