YOUNGSTOWN

A 76-year-old city man will be arraigned Friday on charges of Discharging Firearms in city limits and killing or injuring animals in connection with the shooting of a dog on the East Side Sunday.

Police arrested Alfred Sykes, 76, of Lyden Avenue Thursday.

The dog was reportedly walking with a group of kids on Lyden Avenue. Reports say Sykes pointed what is believed to be a shotgun out of the window of his truck and shot the dog about 3:30 p.m.

The group of kids identified Sykes to police.

Police spoke to Sykes who adamantly denied shooting the dog. Officers tested his hands for gunshot residue and confiscated two firearms, one being a shotgun, from Sykes home.

Police said Sykes showed frustration about loose dogs running through the neighborhood.
