Youngstown Police seek man for assault

YOUNGSTOWN — City police spent much of the afternoon looking for a man who assaulted a woman in front of many witnesses downtown.

The woman and witnesses said the man punched the woman multiple times and then tried to get in her car on Phelps Street at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The man ran off after the attack.

Police chased the man downtown for more than an hour. Police did detain one man seen running with the attacker, but released him at the scene when it was determined that he was not part of the actual assault.

Officers are continuing to search for the man.
