House speaker says no to 'class warfare' taxes

CINCINNATI (AP) — U.S. House Speaker John Boehner says he agrees with President Barack Obama that everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, but says “class warfare” isn’t the way to solve the nation’s economic problems.

Boehner spoke today to a business group at the University of Cincinnati less than two hours after Obama detailed a plan that includes taxing wealthy Americans.

Boehner says he supports a fairer, simpler tax code, but that giving the government more tax dollars would be like “giving a cocaine addict more cocaine.”

Boehner says less regulation and less government will encourage businesses to add jobs.

The president will be in Cincinnati on Thursday to see the outdated Brent Spence Bridge over the Ohio River that he highlighted as an example of a needed, jobs-creating infrastructure project.
