Ambrosia’s goal, Romeo’s 33 saves lead Phantoms past Lumberjacks

Led by goaltender Sean Romeo, the Youngstown Phantoms evened their preseason record with a 3-2 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday night.

Dylan Margonari, Eric Sweetman and Mike Ambrosia scored for the Phantoms while Romeo turned away 33 shots.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Sean,” Phantoms coach Anthony Noreen said. “We all knew he was capable of this caliber of play.”

Margonari’s power-play goal assisted by Alex Gacek gave the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.

Gacek picked up a second assist when Eric Sweetman fired the puck past Muskegon goalie Kenneth Mac-Lean in the second period. Defenseman Kevin Liss also earned an assist.

After Jordan Masters scored for the Lumberjacks, Mike Ambrosia scored to restore the Phantoms’ two-goal advantage. Ryan Lowney and Ryan Belonger had assists.

Joseph Cox scored a third-period goal when Romeo made 13 saves.

“Our shot blocking was there, every guy chipped in,” Noreen said. “Overall, our play was crisper than [Friday] night.

“Special teams was better — we improved from yesterday to today and will look to continue to do that.”

The Phantoms lost to Team USA, 7-2, on Friday.
