Salem Historical Society takes part in Smithsonian’s National Museum Day

The Salem Historical Society Museum will participate in the Smithsonian magazine’s 7th Annual Museum Day. The Columbiana County museum’s featured exhibit, in addition to the other permanent displays, is “Made in Salem, Ohio, 1840-1956” featuring many of themanufactures of the city. Museum Day 2011 is Saturday, but the Salem Historical Society-Museum will be participating Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Smithsonian, Museum Day 2011 is poised to be the largest to date, outdoing last year’s record-breaking event. In 2010, museumgoers

downloaded 227,747 tickets resulting in more than 500,000 museum-goers, visiting more than 1,300 venues in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

The Museum Day Ticket is available to download at www.smithsonian.com/museumday. A list of participating museums is available at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/venues/. Visitors who present the official pass will gain free admission for two people to participating museums and cultural venues.
