Iowa 31, Pittsburgh 27

IOWA CITY, IOWA

James Vandenberg threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and Iowa rallied from a 17-point deficit to stun Pittsburgh. Vandenberg threw for 399 yards, completing the Hawkeyes’ rally with a 22-yard TD pass to Kevonte Martin-Manley with 2:51 left. Iowa (2-1) trailed 27-10 early in the fourth quarter. But Vandenberg threw TD passes of 14 yards to Keenan Davis and 25 yards to Martin-Manley to bring the Hawkeyes within three points, then found a diving Martin-Manley for the go-ahead score. Iowa’s Micah Hyde picked off Pittsburgh quarterback Tino Sunseri with 1:41 left to cap a wild win for the Hawkeyes (2-1), who narrowly avoided their worst start in 11 years.

No. 11 Nebraska 51, Washington 38

LINCOLN, NEB.

Taylor Martinez threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, and Nebraska held off Washington for a wild victory. Martinez looked to have put away the Huskies with his 6-yard TD run, but Keith Price passed 52 yards to James Johnson for his fourth TD toss to make it a 13-point game with 4:27 left.

Minnesota 29, Miami (Ohio) 23

MINNEAPOLIS

Coach Jerry Kill returned to the Minnesota sideline one week after suffering a seizure during a game and watched Marqueis Gray rack up 334 total yards. Gray threw for 163 yards and rushed for 171 more and Duane Bennett blocked a punt and recovered in the end zone to hand Kill his first victory as coach of the Golden Gophers (1-2).

No. 7 Wisconsin 49, Northern Illinois 7

CHICAGO

Russell Wilson threw for 347 yards and three scores, Montee Ball rushed for another two touchdowns and Wisconsin piled up more than 600 yards of total offense. Ball finished with 91 yards on 18 carries, James White added 100 yards and another score, and Nick Toon had two touchdown catches for the Badgers (3-0), who have won 31 straight against non-conference opponents in the regular season.

Michigan 31, Eastern Michigan 3

ANN ARBOR, MICH.

Denard Robinson ran for 198 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, leading Michigan. The Wolverines (3-0) started poorly on both sides of the ball, trailing early in the second quarter, and finished strong. Robinson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to give Michigan a 28-3 lead late in the third quarter.

Army 21, Northwestern 14

WEST POINT, N.Y.

Trent Steelman scored three touchdowns for the second straight week, including the game-winner on a 1-yard plunge with 2:49 remaining. Steelman also scored on runs of 1 and 17 yards, and the swarming Army defense turned up the pressure in the second half.

Illinois 17, No. 22 Arizona State 14

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.

Illinois sacked Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler six times and turned one into a touchdown. With Illinois trailing 14-10 in the fourth quarter, defensive end Whitney Mercilus hit Osweiler in the back and knocked the ball loose to linebacker Ian Thomas. Four plays later, Nathan Scheelhaase hit A.J. Jenkins for a 16-yard touchdown that gave Illinois (3-0) the win.

Purdue 59, Southeast Missouri State 0

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND.

Robert Marve threw a touchdown pass and was nearly perfect in his return from a knee injury to help Purdue.

Indiana 38, South Carolina State 21

BLOOMINGTON, IND.

Indiana’s Edward Wright-Baker threw for two touchdowns and the Hoosiers rushed for 279 yards and three more scores, givings their new coach his first career victory.
