Northeast Ohio Medical University welcomed its Classes of 2015 with White Coat Ceremonies this month.
White coats are symbolic of the professionalism that is expected of medicine and pharmacy students during their professional school years and as physicians and pharmacists.
During these ceremonies, students received their white coats and pledged their commitments to their professions and the health of the patients they will serve.
Two ceremonies were conducted with more than 1,000 family, friends, students, faculty and staff attending.
The College of Pharmacy welcomed 67 new students and the College of Medicine welcomed 127 new students.
Marialice Bennett, professor of clinical pharmacy and residency director for the Ambulatory and Community Care Residency Programs at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, was the featured speaker for the College of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony.
David D. Allen, dean for the College of Pharmacy, presented the Dean’s Leadership Award to Ellen G. Whiting, assistant professor of family medicine in the Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Medicine.
Dr. Daniel J. Ricchiuti, partner at the Youngstown-based N.E.O. Urology Associates, Inc., was the keynote speaker for the College of Medicine White Coat Ceremony.
NEOMED, formerly known as Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, is a community-based, public medical university with a mission to improve the quality of health care in Northeast Ohio working in collaboration with its educational and clinical partners.
With a focus on scientific and medical research, and the interprofessional training of health professionals that is unique to the state of Ohio, the university offers a doctor of medicine and a doctor of pharmacy degree, in addition to graduate-level coursework and research opportunities leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in other medical areas.
