The Rust Belt Theater Company’s production of “Lord of the Flies” will open Friday for a two-weekend run. Curtain time will be 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Sept. 23 and 24 at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave.

“Lord of the Flies” is directed by Sam Luptak Jr. Molly Galano is the assistant director. Although the cast is comprised primarily of teenagers, the production is not being billed as youth theater. “Lord of the Flies has been taught in middle school and high school English classes for decades,” said Rust Belt operations manager Nicole Zayas. “It touches on themes of human nature, bullying, the breakdown of society and individual welfare versus the common good. It’s a very grown-up play.”

“It isn’t very often that you come across a main-stage show that features so many youth roles,” said executive director Robert Dennick Joki. “We have so many talented young people in this area. We’ve made it our goal to give them performance opportunities that both interest and challenge them.”

The cast includes Hunter Thomas, Nick Narkum, Vinnie Dragos, Davin Stilson, Gino Ginetti, Donny Wolford, Nick Behrent, Rico Pirozzoli, Jacob Nash, Zach Bernat, Jack Kuczek and Dave Wolford.

There will be a reception after the opening-night performance. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). For reservations, call or text message 330-507-2358.
