Flu shots, vaccine

Mahoning County District Board of Health personnel will administer flu shots and the nasal spray flu vaccine. The cost for the flu shot or the nasal spray flu vaccine is $25. No appointment is necessary.

People on traditional Medicare must bring their Medicare card so the cost of the shot can be billed. People on Medicaid need to bring their Medicaid card. The shots will be given at Boardman Township Government Center, 8299 Market St., 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday; Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22; and Green Township Administration Building, 12200 Lisbon Road, 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 23.

Caregiver series

Boardman

The Alzheimer Network presents its fall caregiver series with three sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 at St. Charles Church, Boardman-Canfield Road at Westview Drive.

The sessions help concerned family members better understand the changes in their loved ones as well as the impact of the disease on their own lives. There is no charge for the sessions or handouts, but registration is required. To register, call the Alzheimer Network at 330-788-9755.

Training classes

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley will have a combination of first aid and adult CPR/AED training at both 661 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, on Saturday, and Adamas Plaza, 8381 Market St., Boardman, on Oct. 1. Both classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including a lunch break.

Individuals and groups are invited to register for the special package price of $90 each.

Successful participants who meet American Red Cross standards in skill performance will earn two-year certification in all three skills. There is no written exam required.

Public open house

Girard

Windsor House Inc. will have a public open house to celebrate the completion of their short-term rehabilitation unit at Liberty Health Care Center, 1355 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The festivities take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments and tours will be provided. The $2 million, 11,500-square-foot addition includes 16 private rooms equipped with phones, cable television and private showers and bathrooms.

Lifeguard class

If you’re a good swimmer looking for a really cool job, why not become a lifeguard? The next four-session class at the Hubbard Community Pool begins Sunday and continues for three consecutive Sundays — Sept. 25, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9 — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Candidates must attend all four sessions in order to become certified.

The course fee is $180 and includes training by an authorized American Red Cross instructor, participant manual, CPR pocket mask, and all equipment necessary to successfully complete the training.

The Red Cross recommends early registration. Class size is limited to eight participants.
