DELAND, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman is charged with spiking her husband’s coffee with the anti-anxiety drug, Xanax.

Melissa Goetz was charged Wednesday with attempted felony murder and poisoning of food or water.

The 46-year-old woman from Deltona, near Orlando, told authorities she was trying to calm her husband down because he had been physically abusive to her.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Department investigators say her own words helped incriminate her. She left a voicemail message on her husband’s cell phone, apparently unaware she was being recorded. In the message she is heard telling another woman that she had spiked her husband’s coffee.

Her husband told authorities that he hadn’t been feeling well all week.

Goetz was being held on no bond in jail and couldn’t be reached for comment.
