MMA fighter charged with Ohio police assault

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A 27-year-old professional mixed martial arts fighter has been indicted on charges including felonious assault after a brawl outside a southwest Ohio bar.

Montgomery County prosecutors say Nikolaos Boscarino is charged with seven counts that also include resisting arrest. They say several officers and civilians combined to subdue him in an early morning melee in August. Police say four officers were injured.

Prosecutor Mat Heck tells the Dayton Daily News that Dayton officer Donnie Smith remains off duty with injuries. Authorities have said Smith used his stun gun to try to stop Boscarino.

Boscarino was listed today as being in the county jail. No attorney information was immediately available.

Boscarino is a former high school wrestler who has had some 16 professional mixed martial arts bouts.
