Beer, Burgers and Bocce set Sept. 27 as library fundraiser

Cassese’s MVR, a neighbor of the main branch of the Mahoning County Library will host Beer, Burgers & Bocce for Books, Chapter 11, a fundraiser for the library. The event will begin at 5:30 Sept. 27. Tickets are $15 per person.

The MVR was founded in the 1920s by Carmine Cassese in the Smoky Hollow neighborhood on Youngstown’s North Side. Today, Carmine’s grandson, Carmine Cassese, his wife, Patty, and their sons, Frank and Joe, still run the family business, including its locally renowned Bocce Arena.

The fundraising committee has many events planned: boccie, cornhole, 50-50 raffle, and Auction in a Bag, which includes baskets donated by library fans.

Anyone wishing to donate a basket or to buy a ticket should call Debbie Liptak, library development director and co-chairwoman of the event, at 330-740-6086.

Guest bartenders and hosts will include Dee Crawford, Denise DeBartolo York, Susan Berny, Melinda Wolford, Todd Franko, Ed and Chris Muransky, Dana Lariccia, Dominic and Jackie Marchionda, Frank and Norma Watson, Scott Schulick, Ray Cmil III, Betty Cmil, Carlton Sears, A.C. McCullough, Kelly Stevens, Paul McFadden, Dr. Cynthia Anderson, Brian Williams, Richard Marsico and Patty Marsico, Nena Perkins, Vince and Phyllis Bacon, John Darnell and Gwen Smith Darnell, Diana D’Alesio, Marilyn Fisher, Katie Seminara, Lauren Polinsky, Michael LaRocca, Cheryl Mohl, Gary Davenport, Phil Kidd, Bill Costas, Dr. David Ritchie, Dave Coy, Susan Trebilcock and Lori O’Malley.

All proceeds benefit The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Chairwomen are Liptak, Natalie Lariccia and Julie Costas.
