Obama, Tony Blair to meet Monday at the White House

Friday, October 28, 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will meet at the White House on Monday with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The White House did not announce the purpose of the meeting, but the stalled Middle East peace process is a likely topic for discussion. Blair is the Mideast envoy for international mediators who this week failed in their latest attempt to bring Israeli and Palestinian officials back to the bargaining table.

But representatives from the U.S., the E.U., the United Nations and Russia — the group that Blair represents — did announce that both sides would present "comprehensive proposals" for resolving key aspects of their disagreement within three months.

Obama also has urged the Israelis and Palestinians to start talking again.
