Traffic checkpoint nets seven arrests

A weekend blitz by the Mahoning County OVI Task Force resulted in seven arrests.

The blitz was between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. in Boardman and consisted of 13 officers from participating police agencies, as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The operation led to 54 traffic stops and seven arrests, including five for OVI, one for possession of marijuana and one on a Boardman Township warrant, according to a news release.

Officers also cited six others for various violations.

The OVI Task Force is a federally funded program and will continue blitzes and checkpoints at various locations in Mahoning County through 2012.

NEO HealthForce Family Healthcare Careers is having a free Healthcare Careers open house Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, 11 W. Federal St.

At the event, the NEO HealthForce and Eastern Ohio Area Health Education Center’s “Healthcare Careers Exhibit” will be unveiled. The event also will feature employment opportunities in the health-care field, information on health-care training programs and health screenings.

Halloween parade

The village’s annual Halloween parade will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. Participants will line up at Elm and Main streets. Prizes will be awarded to children in groups age newborn to 7 and age 8 to 15.
