Stanley L. Thomas, 37, shot to death early Sunday outside of Clancy’s Pub, has a lengthy criminal record in Warren Municipal Court.
The file includes convictions dating back to 2001 for drug possession, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, falsification and loud music.
Thomas, 37, of Central Parkway Southeast, ran Clancy’s with his sister, police said. Clancy’s is at 2461 Youngstown Road.
The bar has had its own problems. Since August 2010, police have received 33 calls for service there.
The calls were for breaking and entering, theft, traffic accidents, traffic stops, loud noise, assault, gunshots and disturbances. Most of the calls were received between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m.
The Warren Police Department said Thomas was found dead of gunshots wounds in the bar parking lot at 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
As of Monday afternoon, police had made no arrests.
Sgt. Jeff Cole, spokesman for the Warren Police Department, said shell casings were found in the Clancy’s parking lot and also in the parking lot of the IGA grocery store across the street from Clancy’s, but it’s unknown whether the IGA shell casings are related to Thomas’ death.
A 25-year-old Warren woman reported at 2:20 a.m. that the front and rear windows of her car had been shot out at the IGA.
Cole said he doesn’t know what Thomas was doing at the time he was shot and said he had no information on whether police have determined a motive or suspects.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the Warren Police Department.
Warren Councilman Bob Dean said the bar has been open since late last summer, has only a small parking lot, and its patrons have run afoul of neighbors on nearby Kenmore Avenue Southeast because some patrons have parked along Kenmore.
Dean said he’s received numerous complaints from Kenmore residents who didn’t like Clancy’s patrons parking along both sides of Kenmore, which they believe created an obstacle to emergency vehicles getting through.
In some cases the cars even blocked Kenmore residents from getting their vehicles in and out, Dean said.
On Wednesday, council approved a resolution that designated Kenmore as a no-parking area in the area near Clancy’s from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. It was a response to neighbors’ complaints, Dean said. The parking ban goes into effect in about three weeks.
Dean said he and Vincent Flask, the ward councilman for the area, made arrangements before Sunday’s killing to meet with the owner of the bar to discuss complaints about parking, noise and “attitude” of some of the bar’s patrons.
