YOUNGSTOWN
A mother and son were in the intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown on Friday night after being shot multiple times in their Oakwood Avenue apartment Wednesday night on the West Side.
Police have issued arrest warrants charging two Youngstown men with attempted murder in the case.
As of Friday night, neither man had been arrested, police said.
Police were called to the 2600 block of Oakwood at 8:49 p.m. for shots fired and found Robert Shaffer, 29, and his mother, Michelle E. Holmes, 50, both of the Oakwood Avenue address, on the floor, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Shaffer was on the dining room floor, Holmes on the kitchen floor.
Shaffer had been shot in the abdomen, both legs and possibly the foot, police said. Holmes had been hit in the abdomen and shoulder.
A third family member told police he was in the upstairs part of the house when he heard gunfire coming from downstairs and got there to see his brother crawling away from the kitchen.
He also saw a black male wearing a baseball cap covered by a dark hooded jacket shooting a handgun as he backed out of the kitchen door.
The suspect then fled on foot toward the rear of the apartment, the family member said.
City police recovered several spent shell casings in the home and discovered several bullet holes in the walls.
