NEWARK, N.J.

Martin Brodeur stopped 35 shots and made two more saves in the shootout. Dainius Zubrus tallied for New Jersey in the second period. Tough-guy Jared Boll had tied the game in the third period for Columbus with his first of the season.

Bruins 4, Sabres 3, SO

BUFFALO

Benoit Pouliot scored the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout, and the Boston Bruins rallied from two different two-goal deficits for their 10th straight win. Tyler Seguin had a goal and assist, Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara also scored, and Tim Thomas finished with 31 saves for Boston (13-7-0) in the first meeting between the teams since Milan Lucic bowled over Sabres goalie Ryan Miller 11 days ago. Miller sustained a concussion on the play, and is still sidelined.

Wild 3, Predators 2

ST. PAUL, Minn.

Dany Heatley, Kyle Brodziak and Cal Clutterbuck scored third-period goals, Josh Harding made 23 saves and the Minnesota won its fifth straight. Heatley scored at 1:05 of the period for his sixth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Brodziak got his fifth of the season on a power play at 9:39. And Clutterbuck capped the run with his fifth of the season, a short-handed goal at 13:19 of the period.

Canadiens 4, Hurricanes 3, SO

RALEIGH, N.C.

Brian Gionta scored the lone goal in the shootout and Montreal snapped Carolina’s two-game winning streak. Montreal rallied from a two-goal deficit after Carolina’s Jiri Tlusty and Anthony Stewart scored first-period goals. Brandon Sutter’s goal at 3:18 of the third gave Carolina a brief 3-2 lead, but Travis Moen evened the score again when picked up his 100th career point.

Panthers 2, Rangers 1

SUNRISE, Fla.

Jason Garrison and Kris Versteeg scored and Jose Theodore stopped 19 shots to lead Florida to its third straight win. Derek Stepan scored his fourth goal for New York, which lost a second straight game following a seven-game winning streak. Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves.

Flyers 4, Islanders 3, OT

UNIONDALE, N.Y.

Danny Briere scored his second goal of the game with 2:26 remaining in overtime. Andrej Meszaros and Scott Hartnell also scored for Philadelphia, which snapped a two-game skid and handed the Islanders their eighth loss in 10 games.

Kyle Okposo scored his first two goals of the season and Michael Grabner scored for New York. Okposo’s first goal ended the Islanders scoreless drought at 142 minutes, 17 seconds.

Stars 3, Kings 2, OT

DALLAS

Steve Ott scored at 2:56 of overtime, Loui Eriksson notched the tying goal in the final minute of regulation and the Stars rallied to beat Los Angeles. With the teams even at 2, Stephane Robidas skated into the Kings zone and flipped a centering pass to Ott, who went hard to the net up the left side and fired a shot past Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. Eriksson tied it with 20.3 seconds left in regulation off a set play after a timeout.

Coyotes 4, Ducks 2

PHOENIX

Radim Vrbata scored a pair of goals and Phoenix beat the reeling Anaheim Ducks, losers of 12 of 14 games. Keith Yandle had a goal and an assist and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored for the Coyotes, who have won four of six.

Canucks 3, Avalanche 0

DENVER

Cory Schneider stopped 24 shots for his second career shutout, Manny Malhotra and Alexandre Burrows had early goals, and Vancouver extended a run of dominance against Colorado. The victory was Vancouver’s 10th in the past 12 meetings with Colorado. The loss also extended the Avalanche’s difficulties at home, where they have won only three times in 11 games.

Sharks 1, Blackhawks 0

SAN JOSE

Antti Niemi made 34 saves against his former team for his first shutout of the season and Jason Demers broke a scoreless tie late in the second period with his first goal to lead the Sharks to a victory over Chicago. Niemi was tested often as San Jose was sluggish at the start and also helped kill off a power play late in the third period with a toe save against Jonathan Toews to give the Sharks their fourth straight win and sixth in the past seven games. Niemi, who helped Chicago knock out San Jose on the way to winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, got the best of his former team in his 14th career shutout. He improved to 4-1 and has allowed only 10 goals in five games against the Blackhawks. Corey Crawford made 20 saves for Chicago.
